The school of basic sciences is one of the important schools of the Libyan Academy. It was established by a decision of the president of the Academy at the end of 2002 and was combined with engineering sciences under the name of the school of Applied Sciences and engineering, but it was dismissed by a decision of the president of the Academy No. 10 dated 17/01/2006 and named the school of basic sciences this separation did not come out of thin air, but came in response to the development requirements and the need of society for specialized competencies in the field of basic sciences and filling the shortage of Public staff in higher education institutions and private and public productive and service institutions. With the increasing growth in the institutional performance of the school, it has taken on a distinguished role socially by revealing the problems facing institutions and finding solutions to them through scientific research provided by professors and students and providing consultations to them.

The school should be a Radiation Center in the field of graduate studies, scientific research and scientific consultations in various branches of knowledge.

The school seeks to train highly capable and qualified competencies to meet the needs of society and develop scientific research that helps in the implementation of the scientific research strategy in Libya.

One of the objectives of the school of basic sciences:

• Laying the foundations of postgraduate studies of basic sciences inside.
• Consolidate the scientific research base and prepare high-level specialists in various fields.
• Preparing qualified cadres to teach at universities and higher institutes in the field of basic sciences.
• Providing the service and productive sectors with highly qualified competencies to raise the level of their services to society.
• Strengthen cooperation and coordination with the corresponding institutions.
• The study of problems with local and global dimensions in order to contribute to the provision of solutions resulting through research.
• Developing the spirit of scientific research among graduate students and training them on the methods and approaches of modern scientific research.
• Adopting scientific conferences and seminars that can contribute to the development of methods and approaches to the implementation of the state strategy.
• Providing the opportunity for those interested and interested to continue their higher and rigorous studies in various fields of science.
• Providing scientific consultations to various community institutions.
